Indications for Use.
Hay fever and other allergic reactions (inflammatory disease of pituitary membrane); hives, various dermatoses accompanied with itching, also it is used in acute eczema and in that of chronic, contact dermatitis and drug allergy, in bites(allergic reactions due to bites of insects) anaphylactic shock and in angioneurotic edema.
Action
The drug takes anti-allergic, anti-itching and anti-inflammatory action. It also acts as a tranquilizer.
The performance of the drug is evident after an intake by mouth (in 15-30 minutes after administration)
Posology and Administration
Adults and children after 12 years of age: Clemastine is administered 1 mg 2 times a day. If needed – a daily dose may be increased up to 6 mg. Tablets should be taken before meal, they should be rinsed with water. In case if the drug provokes drowsiness, you should plan out the drug intakes in such a way that one of the dose is taken before sleep.
Children less than 12 years of age:
from 1 year to 3 years: 0,25-0,5 mg (2,5-5 ml of sirop);
from 4 years to 6 years of age: 0,5 mg (5 ml of sirop);
from 7 to 12 years of age: 0,5-1 mg (5-10 ml of sirop) or 1/2-1 tablet 2 times a day (in the morning before breakfast and in the evening before sleep).
It is strongly prohibited an intra-arterial introduction of Clemastine!
Counterindications
Closed-angle glaucoma, various events of ulcer disease and in ulcers in neck of urinary bladder, inflammation of prostate gland, accompanied with acraturesis.
Hypersensitivity, infancy under 1 year of age (sirop) or childhood under 6 years of age (tablets), pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Should Be Taken with Precautions, if
Do not use this drug for the treatment of cold. This medication may aggravate the cold, provoking the thickening of nose secret and drying up of mucous coats, also it provokes drowsiness.
As elderly patients may be more sensitive to Clemastine start the therapy from a small dose. It may decrease side effects.
Interface with Other Medications
Do not use the drug together with other medication without a special instruction of your doctor.
Overdosing
Overdosage may provoke both a depressing action on central nervous system and a stimulating one. Central nervous system stimulation is more likely to be observed in children. Other symptoms: dry mouth, fixed pupil dilatation, flushes, intestinal tract disorders.
Clemastine may provoke overdosage side effects in patients above 60 years of age.
Side Effects
- Mental confusion,
- dizziness,
- faintness,
- stanguria or painful urination,
- dry mouth, nose or throat,
- nightmares,
- unusual exaltation,
- nervosism,
- anxiety or irritability.
Pregnancy and Lactation
During pregnancy and lactation Clemastine should be administered only after comparison of its use and harm. In general cases it is counterindicated.
Driving
In the starting period of the drug therapy (individually) it is prohibited driving vehicles or fulfilling accidental operations. A degree of forbiddenness is to be determined in every specific case.
