Posology and Administration

A dose should be chosen in compliance with individual needs. If there are no other indications the following doses are recommended:

Metered aerosol is used for prevention of dyspnea attacks: 1-2 doses of aerosol three times a day. In acute attacks of dyspnea: 1-2 doses of aerosol. When acute exacerbation or at its approach usually one dose of aerosol is enough to get an immediate relief of the condition. If in 5 minutes no evidenced improvement is observed, the dose may be repeated. In especially severe attacks if within 5 minutes the breath has not yet improved the third dose of aerosol may be administered. The next intake (1-3 doses of aerosol) may be administered not earlier than in two hours. If the cure in recommended doses does not give desired results, you need to consult a doctor.

Tablets 20 mg each are used for long-term treatment of bronchial asthma and broncho-pulmonary diseases accompanied with bronchospasm. Adults will take 0,5-1 tablets 4 times a day, whereas children of 3-10 years of age will take 0,5 tablets 4 times a day. For long-term treatment and preventive measures against Adams-Stokes disease: 0,5-1 tablet 6-10 times daily.

Counterindications

Hypersensitivity, asthmatic status, ischemic heart disease, tachyarrhythmia, cardiac failure, thyrotoxicosis, glaucoma.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if

With caution it is administered to patients who suffer from diabetes, hypertonic disease, ischemic heart disease, chronic heart failure.
Children should take Metaproterenol only under control of adults.

Interface with Other Medications

Metaproterenol is not recommended to use together with other medications without a doctors order. Otherwise a series of unexpected side effects may appear.

Overdosing

In case of overdosage and emergence of complaints one should stop to take the medicine and seek medical assistance at the nearest hospital immediately.

Side Effects

Sometimes side effects in the form of palpitation, stenocardias ventricular arrhythmia, muscular weakness, agitation and tremor of fingers may be observed; in particular cases there may be blush, headache, low arterial tension, feeling of jam in the ribcage, sleep disorder, nausea, vomiting, perspiration, stenocardias ventricular arrhythmias and skin allergic reactions, habituation.

Pregnancy and Lactation

In the first three months of pregnancy Metaproterenol should be taken on a doctors order. The same precautionary measures should be taken before delivery of a child. During the treatment breast-feeding should be cancelled.

Driving

Caution is needed in vehicle driving and in doing other potentially hazardous activities, which require elevated concentration of attention and mental agility.
